Content Strategist

Remote (US) / Chesapeake, VA

At Rival Digital, we are building a world-class digital marketing agency for the home service industry. 

We are currently hiring a full-time content strategist. Essential components of the content strategist role include SEO keyword research, outlining briefs, editing content, and meeting with clients.

An ideal candidate for this position would be a current or prior English, journalism, or public relations professional or graduate who is intrinsically motivated, technologically proficient, a self-starter, highly responsible, and willing to constantly learn new skills. Previous experience working with web ad copy is a plus. Content strategy entails plenty of writing and editing, so you must showcase excellent writing skills to be considered. The candidate must be extremely reliable and responsive to our team and clients, as this position is fully remote.

While this position is remote, you will be held accountable for executing assigned deliverables correctly and on time via frequent check-ins with your supervisor. The position requires availability during regular business hours, a strong internet connection, a quiet area to work, and excellent communication skills. Our working hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

Objectives

  • Conduct keyword research for all of our SEO clients and develop a thorough understanding of our SEO tools and philosophy.
  • Outline and edit content for website copy, newsletters, and other marketing materials.
  • Present relevant information to clients during meetings in an accessible and highly professional manner. You must have exceptional client-facing skills and a friendly personality; it’s imperative that you effectively communicate strategies and complex concepts to clients in a simple, accessible manner.

Daily and Weekly Responsibilities

  • Lead meetings with clients and internal stakeholders to identify goals and suggest strategies to effectively implement those goals.
  • Meticulously proofread content for proper grammar, spelling, and appropriate use of literary devices.
  • Review client suggestions on content and implement their edits into SEO content.
  • Complete all assigned tasks the day they are assigned to you by the content marketing manager.
  • Take part in formal and informal training sessions. Consistently seek out webinars, videos, books, and other resources to develop professionally.
  • Be prompt. Since our team is remote and relies on business communication software, you must be fully present and responsive during your working hours. You must provide your own strong internet connection to successfully perform the duties of this role.
  • Be highly attentive and ask insightful questions. This industry moves quickly, so you must read Google’s latest algorithm updates on a weekly basis.
  • Identify areas for client outreach. Call clients, record videos, or meet with them directly to clarify their questions or present new ideas.
  • Give suggestions on how we can improve our framework. We highly encourage and value employees’ new ideas and feedback.
  • Craft and deploy clear, clever, and concise monthly email marketing campaigns for clients that utilize our email marketing services.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing and proofreading skills. You will need to provide a portfolio of work to showcase your writing skills. It must be submitted in PDF or Google Doc format. We will not accept Word documents.
  • Incredibly strong client-facing skills. You will be answering client questions frequently and must be a confident communicator.
  • An editorial background. This includes editing/proofreading for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proper tone.
  • Thorough knowledge of AP-style writing
  • Ability to adapt quickly and remember multi-step processes with ease. It is paramount that you internalize corrections and avoid careless mistakes.
  • In-depth understanding of GSuite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal communication and listening skills
  • Strong ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills. You must complete all daily assignments to meet deadlines for our clients.
  • Strong online research skills
  • A conscientious attitude with a willingness to learn new skills each day

Preferred Qualifications

  • Digital marketing experience
  • Understanding of website performance metrics
  • Basic knowledge of website infrastructure
  • Previous experience using project management software (Asana, Monday.com, etc.)
  • Previous experience using business communication software (Slack, Gmail, etc.)
  • Previous experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or ServiceTitan Marketing Pro.
